God’s Gospel and the Storyline of Scripture

God’s Gospel and the Storyline of Scripture

A long time ago, I remember my pastor saying something like, “The Bible is the only book that makes sense of the world.” The Bible alone answers the most pressing questions every human being must grapple with:

How did we get here?

Why are we here?

What is wrong with the world?

What’s the solution?

What happens when we die?

These questions are not merely “adult” questions, they are essential questions for our children—especially in a world that seems increasingly bent on rebellion against God, His Word, and His ways. How will our children stand? Where will they find indestructible hope and joy? What will give them a strong defense against the confusion and deceit of this present darkness? Now more than ever, we need to clearly and repeatedly communicate to our children the incomparable message of the gospel in all its depth and breadth. They need to have clear, well-articulated, biblical answers to the most pressing questions. They need to be reminded over and over again that the Bible has been given to us by God…

…so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.—John 20:31

Over the years, one of Truth78’s most popular resources has been Helping Children to Understand the Gospel, in which we highlight and explain 10 essential truths that define the essence, means, and goal of the gospel. But there is also a resource that reveals these 10 truths within the context of the unfolding storyline of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation: God’s Gospel. Written in story form, each short chapter presents and explains key biblical texts in child-friendly language in order to help children have a fuller understanding of why the gospel is the best news of all! Furthermore, each chapter ends with interactive discussion questions that prompt and encourage children to respond biblically to what they have learned.
